When I was six, I told my mother that a regular visitor to our home would sometimes climb into my bed and touch me in ways that hurt and scared me. I didn't have the language to describe this man's terrible actions as rape and sexual assault. Instead, I pointed to where I had been violated and hoped she would understand.
