Female Olympian beaten by controversial gender row boxer Lin Yu-ting makes 'inflammatory gesture' in protest after Paris bout

Gender row boxer Lin Yu-Ting was plunged into a second ring controversy tonight after her defeated Olympic opponent made the 'X' sign to question her sex which has been under intense scrutiny in Paris. Yu-Tin easily beat Turkey's Esra Yildiz, but she made the double 'X' sign with her index fingers just as the Taiwan boxer's Bulgarian opponent had done in the previous bout. Yildiz appeared to be showing respect to Yu-Tin by touching gloves and even holding the ring rope open for her as she climbed out to have a compulsory medical assessment.

Ethiopia's Lamecha Girma has reportedly regained consciousness after his heavy fall at the start of the last 200 meters of the men's steeplechase at the Paris Olympics earlier on Wednesday. The 23-year-old, who is the 3,000m steeplechase world record holder, was stretched off of the track after passing out right in the thick of the event, worrying fans in the process. It is believed that Girma has now regained consciousness as he was able to utter a few words before being transferred to hospital for examinations, according to French outlet L'Equipe.

Taylor Swift has cancelled her three upcoming Vienna, Austria concerts after two suspects were arrested for allegedly plotting a terror attack on the shows. The 19-year-old main suspect was arrested in Ternitz, south of Vienna, and the second person in the Austrian capital - according to Franz Ruf, director-general for public safety in the Ministry of the Interior. The popstar, 34, was due to perform at Vienna's Ernst-Happel-Stadion on August 8, 9, and 10 and security measures for the shows were set to be stepped up - before the cancellation.
